Summer 2027 Experiential Marketing Internship (In-Person, Travel-Intensive)
Based In: Hillsborough, NC (with nationwide travel)
Program Dates: May 10 - August 13, 2027
Pay: $15/hour + overtime eligibility
Position Summary
Sports Promotions Group (SPG) is seeking new team members to join our Experiential Marketing Internship Program. During the internship window, Experiential Marketing Interns will assist with our popup retail and grassroots marketing efforts through the implementation of brand activations at and around youth and professional soccer events throughout the country. Interns will be involved in every step of the process including designing, planning, building, and managing operations at these activations and stores. In addition to managing marketing activations, interns will enter the market to interact with the soccer customer base in efforts to launch new products, work directly with the top brands and soccer clubs, and create unique fan and customer experiences. When not working marketing specific events and activations the expectation is that the applicant will work alongside our other Event Retail Interns.
This position is travel-intensive. Applicants should be prepared to be on the road at events for most of the summer.
Responsibilities
Understand the SPG grassroots marketing program and the activities that take place behind the scenes to operate a successful brand activation.
Monitor expenses and understand the management of event budgets.
Successfully turn ideas into tangible events and experiences.
Develop cooperative leadership skills and confidence in decision making.
Consistently demonstrate the ability to tactfully handle challenging situations while maintaining focus in regard to the goal at hand.
Develop and maintain strong consumer and partner relationships to increase brand loyalty.
Fulfill and execute specific sports marketing activations tailored to the event and sponsoring brand/client.
Understand the event set-up and promotional process for Sports Promotions Group.
Qualifications
Ability to meet the internship's scheduling and frequent travel requirements.
Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, and extended event shifts as scheduled
Basic understanding of accounting to assist with budget management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to handle event organization and set up in a team-based setting.
Ability to stay on task, work independently, and remain productive in periods without direct supervision.
Current enrollment in or completion of a degree program related to Business, Marketing, Sport Management, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of the professional and youth club soccer market is a plus.
Travel Expectations:
Travel locations: Event locations may include CA, CO, FL, IL, MN, MO, NJ, NC, OH, OK, TN, TX, VA, and WA
Home base: When not traveling, work will be based in Hillsborough, NC.
Event assignments: Interns will not attend every event, but are expected to be available during peak event windows. Individual travel schedules and event assignments will vary.
Travel expenses: All travel expenses, including flights, lodging, and local transportation, are covered by SPG.
Physical Demands
Frequently stand and walk for extended periods throughout event shifts.
Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull merchandise, boxes, equipment, and event materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Frequently bend, reach, stoop, and move throughout temporary retail and event spaces.
Regularly communicate with customers, team members, and event personnel.
Specific vision abilities include close visual acuity to perform activities such as transcribing information, distinguishing colors, and reading.

Because of the nature of our summer event schedule, this opportunity is best suited for individuals who are comfortable with frequent travel, variable schedules, weekend and holiday work, extended event days, and active, hands-on responsibilities.
